Tips that don't work?

Ok, let me preface this by saying I’m almost 6 foot tall and as of this morning I weighed 233.4 lbs. I’m not obese. I’m overweight. I’ve lost weight by starving myself. I lost weight by ‘dieting’. I’ve lost weight the right ways and the wrong ways, and over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about being healthy. Even thought I usually know the right choice for a healthy life style, I still choose: Coke, M&M’s, and Sitting on the couch as opposed to going for a jog.
Today a coworker pointed this article out to me, as a way to say breakfast isn’t important, and I made me want to inform you why this was dumb! So here it is, and let me tell you why this article makes no sense.

http://www.cracked.com/article_19130_6-fitness-tips-everyones-heard-that-dont-work-at-all.html

The article tells us that these are NOT true:

1) You MUST have breakfast

Ok, the article is right. You don’t HAVE to have breakfast. But really, you want to tell someone that wants a healthy life that they don’t need breakfast? Some people can get through the day without breakfast (Lord knows I’ve done it a ton), but a healthy metabolism starts with eating in the morning, and then eating throughout the day. Eating one meal a day will allow you lose weight, but in the end, when it’s time to go back to eating like a big boy, you gain it back.

2) You must get your BMI down

BMI is outdated… Yes. Is it useful? YES! There are rules in this world and while they are important, there are exceptions to them. Reggie Bush is an exception. If you’re reading this blog to find “health” advice… YOU ARE NOT THE EXCEPTION….BOTTOM LINE

3) Barefoot running is best

I think the writer is missing the point here. It sounds like he has a personal vendetta against barefoot runners, whether they are wearing Vibram Five Fingers or the new FILA’s or really barefoot, he just doesn’t like that they run barefoot. I speak from personal use of VFF’s, and they aren’t for everyone. My wife put them on and immediately become a better runner. It took me some time to wear into them (I got a few blisters). But notice something about getting the shoes that we started doing. We got out and RAN! I don’t care if you run barefoot, with $200 shoes, or with Bricks on your feet… JUST RUN! It’s healthy.

4) P90X/Muscle Confusion is a Revolutionary Way to Get in Shape

You know why this is revolutionary? Because over the years, American’s have become accustomed to the “microwave”. They want it right now! Why cook a good meal when you can have one fixed in the 60 seconds? P90X/GSP Rushfit/anything using ‘muscle confusion’ isn’t really doing what it says. It’s doing “people confusion”. After 30 days of doing the same thing, people don’t want keep doing what they’ve been doing. If the writer had ever done P90X or any of these workout plans, they would learn that they aren’t doing a Special workout that confuses the muscles. They are doing the same workouts that we’ve all done before (pushups, pull-ups, crunches and minimal weights) just in a different order to help keep us focused. So again, instead of putting something in a negative light… focus on someone getting out and WORKING OUT!!! Just DO IT!!!

5) Want a Snack? Eat Carrots or Celery instead of a candy bar!

Uh… huh? A fitness tip that doesn’t work? No, this tip DOES work if you’re not a spoiled lazy American. If you don’t change your habits of eating chips when you want them, then you’re still going to be a spoiled lazy American and in 4 months wonder why you just can’t lose weight. Eat right! Work out… Stop being a Spoiled Lazy America

6) Shed pounds by drinking lots of water!

Ok, sounds to me like we don’t need water because food has it. This might be the dumbest thing the author has said. Yes, food has water in it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t drink good clean water. Studies show that people that drink water make healthier choices when picking food. Do you realize that water cleanses your system of toxins? And really, how many steaks, pasta, fruit, bread, haggis, and live bats do you have to get to get your daily amount of water. Seriously, DRINK WATER! LOTS OF IT!
